A NEW WEED WHACKER

Yesterday as we were going to do some errands we went by an open field several blocks from our home.  The field borders on a cute little park and some apartments.

There was a whole flock of goats doing a tremendous job of clearing the weeds.

I had to take a few shots with my phone since Debby of My Shasta Home  had posted about a herd of goats in her area yesterday.

I really love this concept of natural "weed whacking" for the good of man and animal.

Look at those tummies...

I tried to get their adorable faces but they had other things on their minds.
It looks like they are getting ready to leave their winter coats behind.
They were so shaggy and two-toned.

The goat herding dog made sure we stayed in our car and didn't bother the feeding animals.

So we took a few photos and said thank you for letting us enjoy your work, and we were on our way.

This was so fun to see so close to our home.

Now, if we could have a few of those guys come over for lunch in our backyard, we would be set!

Thankful the goats are helping with fire abatement and weeds too.

Always be grateful

Always be kind

You got good photos. And those dogs are excellent protectors. Hmmm, maybe we could rent a few...

What a charming sight to stumble upon! Goats doing the work of clearing weeds is such a wonderful, natural solution. It's great to see how these animals can be so helpful to both the environment and the community. The shaggy coats and their focused eating make them so endearing. I can almost picture their contented munching from the photos you took! And it's always nice when we can appreciate the simple things like this, especially with a grateful heart. Maybe one day you'll have a few goats visiting your backyard too. How lovely that would be!

I saw Debbie's post on this too. It's funny this goat herd popped up for you today. I think this is a great way to take care of some grass!

I love this idea so much! ... Especially the big grin on their keeper dog.
Speaking of which, you've just put one on my own face.

This is so neat. I did read Debby's post on the goats and now you all have goats!! Wouldn't you love to have one or two for a couple of days a week...they could replace the dreaded mowing job. I really think it's great that this serves a two fold purpose. The goats get fed and the underbrush gets cleared out. The dog is serious about his job...I sure enjoyed these photos Sue..thanks for sharing.

We drove by Whiskeytown this afternoon and saw the dogs in action. They mean business! The goats are so cute. I saw many little ones - was tempted to steal one! 😉

We have that here - I called once, and it cost thousands of dollars! Wish I could have gotten it through. We had a wild backyard.

Not have to mow or weed whack. That's not too shabby. I mowed two yards today. Tomorrow, I'm free not to do outdoor chores.

Wonderful photos. These cell phones do a pretty good job of capturing the moment. Goats are kinda cool. They have the strangest eyes. If our back part of the property was fenced I would ask our neighbors to turn theirs lose in there. Let them clean out the underbrush. 🐐💗

Useful creatures, goats. They clean up the weeds, give milk (and you can make cheese....) and provide some yummy manure for the garden at the same time.

There are a lot of them. The job should be done soon. Love the dog on patrol.

ahh how cool is that. I would love to have a herd in my own yard but i have no grass just a lot of pine needles and stuff. Wonder if they would like those.
