Yesterday we went to our daughter in laws side of the family Christmas annual party.
It was so much fun to be together again.
There were 40 of us gathered together, including the 2 newest babies. That always makes it more fun.
I'm so glad that Sigrid and Steve have the kind of home that can accommodate that kind of crowd for a sit down dinner.
They always rearrange the furniture and there was plenty of elbow room too.
5 tables of 8...pretty awesome.
Its a planned potluck buffet with a lot of the standard Norwegian traditional foods.
I failed to get photos of most of the food due to the hoards of people digging in.
The roast pork is always the big hit of the meal. It was huge.
Here are Sigrid's brother, Mort and his wife (who is our niece, Wendy) cutting the monster. It took over 9 hours to slow roast. Mort was up at 3:30AM getting it ready to roast..
Then comes the big highlight of the evening.
Santa comes to visit and until the "kids" are married they are destined to sit on Santa's lap and get a small gift. There is always plenty of "horse-play" involved.
But this year there was an added attraction of the Grinch trying to out-do Santa.
No one knew he was coming and it was quite hilarious.
One of the cousin's daughters has a wonderful boyfriend now. Dillon was the first to have to sit on the Grinch's lap. I think he may have wondered about this crazy family and what he had gotten himself into..
I didn't get many photos of the various kids and their gifts. I was in the corner and sometimes there was a body in front of me. Buts its ok. I got plenty of laughs peaking around them.
I'm so glad that Willow was brave enough to sit on Grinch's lap and chatted with he and Santa.
It was such a fun evening and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
So the 2024 Christmas party is in the books.
Looking forward to next year.

40 people! Wow. You are blessed!
I agree with Sandi. I think that you are blessed too. How does everyone get together without anyone having to split it off? I love the grinch. I think that party looked like so much fun! And I love how everyone can sit down together at the same time.
Their home with all the tables look like an exclusive restaurant. It all looks like fun. Nice to have a big family where everyone gets along so well. Merry Christmas.!
What an amazing party! Even more so because she did not rent a hall for so many, but had it in her own home. I cannot imagine the work that went into it! Her home is so gorgeous...beautiful windows, kitchen, etc. And the Grinch to top it off!!! a party to remember forever!
What a fun family gathering!! I love the addition of the white elephant gift activity. I think those are always fun.
Ooooo that must have been a blast! Happy Christmas to you all.
What a wonderful venue to host everyone! So your DIL is Norwegian? My mother was, too, and I seem to recall a cousin(?) named Sigrid. I'm curious to know what traditional dishes accompanied that roast. After my father passed, and their only child (me) lived hundreds of miles away mother was never much interested in cooking and baking.
My family's size pales in comparison to yours, but I'd like to float the idea of a white-elephant exchange next year.
Oh what fun, oh what joy!! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way...HO Ho HO, Merry Christmas! I LOVED this, and would've loved to have been a bug on the wall to watch all the fun and laughter. What a beautiful family! Oh, we have done the White Elephant gift exchange game thing too, and I love doing that with the extended family. Always something to get some good laughs. Looks like you all had a wonderful time of love and joy. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Sounds like a wonderful time. How much fun for everyone young and old
What a wonderful party to go to. I'm glad that you went. You have a very Merry Christmas.
What a wonderful family gathering, Sue, and from these photos it sure looked like a great time was had by everyone. It must have been such fun to see Santa and the Grinch together. Thanks for all your comments this past year, which I really appreciate. I hope that you and Dave enjoy a very Merry Christmas and that the new year is good to us all.
