Christmas Day dawned damp and chilly.
We slept in a bit and made our way over to our son and daughter in laws home for a full day of "grazing" and gift giving. It was different than our usual tradition of everyone coming here for the day. But it was great to mix it up a bit anyway.
We had a yummy brunch which I failed to take any pictures of..homemade cinnamon rolls by Amanda and a delicious egg casserole which Sigrid made.
While things were getting ready we went out in the backyard to see the horses that are boarded in the field behind the homes. (not Steve's horses). These horses are retired work horses and have literally been put out to pasture for the rest of their lives. They aren't pets and some are very skittish of people.
After our brunch we moved on to the gifts. Its always a fun time for all.
To explain the next picture...
Dave brought over a plate and hid it at their house when we had our family Christmas party last Sunday. It just became part of the decorations.
Well,...
Guess what Dave got as a gift on Christmas morning???
It was wrapped so beautifully...
Too funny...
I guess he was found out so to speak..
We were so glad that our friend Karen could come over for the afternoon and dinner time. Her mom's caregiver came to stay so Karen could have some time for herself.
She had gotten a new phone and was getting help with some of the apps.
After playing some games and just chatting it was time to eat again..
It was such a lovely table setting and we were treated like we were in a restaurant.
Our order was taken and we were served.
This to me was a GIFT in itself.
Prime Rib, done to perfection ... yummy potatoes... creamed corn that was to die for, Caesar salad, artichokes, special sausages, jello with bananas, and chocolate pie for dessert. YUM !

Awww I can't believe I'm your first comment!! What a lovely Christmas with your family. That's what its all about. We had a wonderful Day too. Some were sick and couldn't make it, but those that were there had a marvelous time and Don got to dedicate baby Nathaniel. So special. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful pictures. PS could you beam me over a slice of that prime rib??? HaHa
That sounds like a perfectly wonderful day. That collar on that one jacket made me laugh. She can hide out in that one.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Love those horses!
What a wonderful day! The table is so gorgeous! And the food looks out of this world!!
What a lovely day! Such a beautiful family, and it just looks like a peaceful and enjoyable kind of day. And that Prime Rib looks so good. It seems like so many had that this year. I've never cooked one before, and I'm kind of afraid to. But I seriously would love to have some! I may have to try it. It sure beats lasagna, although what we had was delicious, but has not settled well. LOL. Or maybe too well. LOL. Anyway, I'm ready for a change of diet. Merry Christmas! I love that plate, btw. I would just keep it. LOL.
How funny, that hidden plate coming back to Dave. I love your family's sense of humor. That prime rib has my mouth watering -- as does the artichoke. I'll never forget the first time my (former) husband took me to a nice restaurant where they served artichoke ... and I'd no idea what to do. Now I love it, but have never tried preparing one myself.
Here's to good times!
Who else can go to their back yard and see horses and feed them carrots? It sure sounded like a fantastic time. The dinner with the prime rib and chocolate pie - yummy! And hubs getting his plate back. And the jacket - lol.
