Here we are at the next to the last letter of the alphabet. Todays letter is " Y ".
" Y " is for the Yucca plant. Its a strange plant which was finished blooming when we saw them in the Nevada desert.

Actually this Yucca looks pretty yucky to me. No more flowers up on the yellowish stem.

That's where yuccas belong, at Red Rock. We removed two from our farm last summer. I never felt they belonged here. But when they bloom, they really are something.

So that's what it looks like. I remember loving a shampoo back in the 70s called Yucca Dew.. it smelled wonderful.

These Yucca plants are all of the rage here in NZ Sue, as indoor plants. I don't like them but Jill had one for a while till something went wrong with it and I happily threw it out. Like you I think Yucca describes them well! - Dave

We have yuccas in some Dutch gardens too. They flower every second year. Good choice for the letter "y"!

Great choice for Y today! I briefly thought about a yucca, too, but I couldn't find any good pictures in my files--agaves, yes, but no yuccas. Desert plants aren't native here, of course, but I find them very interesting.

Good choice for Y. Yucca is such a useful plant, beautiful flower (National Flower for Mexico), ediable root and aloe for skin!!

Oh yes! Yucca!! I have a 'tame' one in the conservatory, but we did see some very large specimens in the desert when we visited!

Don't you just love those yuccas? i do. except before the natives had wool, they used yucca to make their clothing out of. Ouch! Itchy! Can you imagine??
