YEAR OF THE DRAGON LUNAR NEW YEAR

I was just looking at Diane B.'s blog at Adventure Before Dementia ...about her celebration of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dragon.

Got me thinking of a trip to San Francisco a few years ago.

We visited Chinatown and experienced a parade and several Dragons.

They were so colorful and it was rather noisy...

Thought you would enjoy seeing them.

This is the Dragon costume sans human... you can see his feet off to the side.
That thing is so heavy .  I'm sure he was welcoming a rest before dancing around again.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR !

There’s nothing quite like being in San Francisco’s Chinatown during their Lunar New Year. I used to go every year when I lived on the peninsula. It’s like being in New Orleans during Mardi Gras! Beautiful photos. Thanks for taking me back!

I would love to see all of this in person. We were in SF several months ago and enjoyed it.

What a fab experience you enjoyed! Now I wonder, if those 'neath the costumes aren't chosen by their fitness level/athleticism. Can't have a mythical creature going 'splat' on the asphalt!

Glad I could arouse such good memories. The dragon is that lovely long undulating on but the short ones made of two humans inside like the ones who danced for us are actually Lions. They have both at big celebrations like you saw in SF. Loved your photos.
