VOLUNTEERING IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

Last night Dave and I had the privilege of volunteering for the Sayonara Center's Kids Club Christmas party.

This center is open weekdays for 3 hours after school as a safe place to do homework, have a healthy snack and do crafts and play games.

The center is open year around for the low income neighborhood.  The community is a safe, drug free, violence free place for these young people.  The kids are constantly being challenged by gangs, a drug presence and little academic success.

Caring community staff and volunteers are making a difference in these precious lives.

We had 21 kids come to the party and have a ball.  They heard the Christmas story, had dinner, went Christmas caroling, played games and decorated cookies to take home.

Can you say frosting and sprinkles from head to toes and some actually made it on the cookies.

I only took 2 photos, one of which I am sharing here.  Due to privacy issues I didn't take any more.

I'm so glad we went.

To me ... This is what Christmas is all about.

What a wonderful choice you made in your volanteering this Christmas! I'm surprised you even got these photos. When Phil taught chess after school, taking any photos was forbidden. Yet we could bring in food! Go figure.

How wonderful that you both volunteer. I am hoping to do more of it when I retire next year.
