THE DAY AFTER OUR PARTY

Well, this is the day after our bible study holiday potluck.

All in all it was a great time but we had some snafus along the way.

Today Dave and I are in zombie mode..lots of work in a short amount of time.

I had finished the tree Monday night.  The lights were perfect and I had found most of the ornaments I always want on our tree.

Tradition!!

Tuesday morning I turned the lights on and everything looked fine so I went about my business.  Next time I went in the room the bottom complete strand was out...

Monday night...

Tuesday morning...

Not a happy camper but I didn't dare fiddle with it in case the rest of them went out.

Then we got calls from 5 of the people coming that they couldn't make it due to

illness and some real difficulties in their lives.

So we went from 12 to 7 and still ended up with a wonderful comfort food dinner.

Ham, mashed potatoes, brazed Brussel sprouts, yummy salad, homemade cranberry sauce and french bread.

Here's my candid photo  of us at the table!!

I'm suppose to be a photographer...HaHa

I really can't believe this is the only photo I took..

Isn't it grand?

Here are a few of the photos of things that are our Christmas decorations every year.

Most you probably have seen before but that's the way traditions are.

We're getting TOO OLD to go all out the way we used to do.

Bless Dave's heart he persevered and we got the outside lights up.

This Nativity set was purchased our first year of marriage.
So that makes it 57 years old.
It's a must for us.

Dave's Mom made these pine cone trees for us 57 years ago too.

Santa is also 57 years old.  Dave bought this from Sears while he worked in the toy department.
The wreath was also made by Dave's Mom from cones and seeds she gathered throughout the year.

Originally our tree had Disney ornaments on it exclusively.

As the years have gone on we have added special ornaments that have sentimental value.

Our first granddaughter gets the honor of being on our tree too.

There is always fun stuff..just because...

Our daughter in law's grandpa made each family a reindeer.
I love it and it has to be part of the decor every year.

In honor of my Scandinavian roots

I put our Nativity set that we brought back from Kenya on the table we used for our coffee set up.

I lit the candles to show the simple Scandinavian centerpiece  and like how the
whole event was going..
The candles sputtered and went out!

So I decided to play around with the smoke a bit..Al la Sandra of MadSnapper...

Thus my saga is done...

I hope I didn't bore all of you..this is just the way my life has been going lately.

Now it's off to stand in line at the post office.  😒

I loved the traditions and your additions over the years. it is definitely a way to remember loved ones with thanksgiving for having them in your life. Perfection is highly overrated. I will take all the simple joys I can experience. And sometimes the imperfect encompasses the dearest memories.

Loved, loved, loved this post. Prayers for holiday ENERGY and joy for you and Dave.

You did a marvelous job Sue. The one and only photo of the dinner party is a winner. Part Picasso and part Warhol. Priceless museum material (just kidding!!)
Your tree is stunning and all the treasured ornaments are precious. Live the first granddaughter.
The outdoor lights, the nativities and your Scandinavian traditions are super.

Like what you & the mad snapper can do with your talents.

I love seeing how people decorate their homes for Christmas, so this has been the total opposite of boring! Your tree is so beautiful that it really doesn't even need lights! The pinecone trees are adorable. And the outside of your house, WOW, it is gorgeous! Outside, we have a couple Christmas flags flying, but that is IT! Wouldn't want to trip the delivery man on those pesky power cords, eh? At least that's my excuse..

What a beautiful tree!

Nice capture of the candle smoke.

Your Captcha asks a lot of questions. I have never seen one do so many. It makes it very difficult to comment.

How wonderful you could both prepare for and enjoy the Christmas party. It went well by the sound of it in spite of a few setbacks. Those decorations are beautiful and have such history. Wonderful!

I enjoyed seeing your decorations . I also really liked the smoke pictures. This gives me some ideas for those long winter months when photography all but stops.

Oh Sue, you home, tree, and decorations are lovely. I'm so glad you shared the stories of each precious piece. I love your Nativities...and the one from Africa is elegant. Got more than half my decorations up today..will finish tomorrow. Trying to pace myself! That's hard for the energizer bunny, HaHa.

Love that tree - wow. i haven't done up a tree in quite a few years. I have about three small ones i sometimes decorate. None of the kids travel here for Christmas as they all live in different states and we usually just go down to our one son's house who is still somewhat local. Sounds like you have been so busy.
