LABOR DAY

It's interesting to think about what Labor Day means in the U.S.

I think most people think it's a holiday and one last BBQ before school starts.

I was struck by labor meaning Work.

I will be 76 in two months and have just entered back into the "work force".

Because of my dear friend of 58 or 59 years,

I became one of her part-time IHSS care providers.

IHSS is a state sponsored "in home social service."

Lynne can do a lot of things for herself

but needs someone there all the time.

She and her daughter live together in a lovely home,

but her daughter must work.

That's where we as providers come in.

It's a challenge and at times a bit tiring but very fulfilling

to know I am helping them both a few days each week.

That being said, Labor Day does have a new meaning to me.

The last rose of summer...

So you are someone's angel now! And how wonderful that she has a caregiver who is also a friend! I cannot think of a better way to spend your time. Is this flower really lavender?

I have seen several post here with IHSS and time cards but had no idea until today what that means. it is good for her and for you that you are able and willing to join the labor force at this time in your life.. so happy for both of you. caregiver is a tough job and I know she is glad to have you

Such a meaningful mission, helping someone stay in her home and diminishing the stress of a daughter who is working outside the home and can be confident her mom is safe and with caring individuals during the work day. Best wishes on your work days.
