Over the next few days I will be sharing glimpses of our day trip to Bodie California.
Bodie is now a state historic park with only about 5% remaining of the buildings it contained during its 1880s heyday.
This is a genuine California gold mining ghost town which is now maintained in a state of "arrested decay".
BODIE
And now my comrades all are gone;
Naught remains to toast.
They have left me here in my misery,
Like some poor wandering ghost.

It must feel strange to visit gohst places like this one - there are some gohst villages near the place where we live too, but on the Spanish side of the border - people are leaving small mountain villages to go to large towns and only a few old people remain, sometimes no one at all. It's a bit sad. Your picture tells that story beautifully.

Such a powerful scene. Mournful and silent. Reminds me very much of the afternoon I spent walking through Georgetown, Colorado on a quiet, cold Sunday. I felt like I had gone back in time, and couldn't stop myself from thinking that pictures could help preserve what would inevitably crumble due to exposure.
If this image is any indication.. it's going to be a great tour.

Old window; a mute witness of past times, of people and events at that time! I wonder who used to look through that window or to peep behind those worn out curtains. If only the window could speak it would have many interesting stories to tell.

It's a wonderful photo that leaves much to the imagination. One could get really interested in abandoned, historic towns after seeing this photo and reading the quote.

i love such places of "arrested decay"...reminds me of mining ghost towns we saw on our trips to CO and NM......I especially loved the turquoise mining ghost towns in NM.........some of them have become meccas for artists.....but for me the charm lay in the ones which were abandoned .......:) thanks for sharing yours from Bodie......there's always so much to see and learn from blogs......
I love Bodie, though it has been many years since setting a foot there. Your pictures are great - capturing the "deserted-ness" of it. Love the old old wood below...
