ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " K "

The KEYNOTE or central idea of this post is the letter " K ".

My first photo is a KALEIDOSCOPE of color. I love all the different KINDS of colors and designs in Chihuli's glass art.
This was taken at the Belligio Resort in Las Vegas.

The gentleman wore a KILT and piped the bride and groom to a wedding ceremony my husband and I helped cater, or should I say (KATER?)

Do you have KEEPSAKES to remind you of special occasions and memories?
I have flowers pressed in my scrapbook from times gone by.
KUDOS to Mrs. Nesbitt and her team for handling the whole KIT and KABOODLE of ABC Wednesday.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " J "

We've come to the letter " J " in our trip around the alphabet.
The word for the day is JAIL. I took the pictures at the Folsom State Prison museum.
When the prison was first occupied this is what the JAIL cells looked like.

Here we have a JAILBIRD as the incarcerated were called.
Ah, home sweet home.

Modern day Folsom Prison looks a bit more accomodating than it was many years ago.
Its still a place where JUSTICE is trying to be served.

SPLASH OF SPRING

I needed to post a Splash of Spring after my last sobering blog.
This actually could have been another " I " word. Ice Plant.
The purple color is so vivid and vibrant.
Don't you think the inside of the flower is fascinating?
It looks like its made with fiber-optics.
Enlarging the picture will give you a closer look.
Have a wonderful weekend every one.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " I "

This is a more sobering post for the letter " I " than I have done in the past.
The letter " I " stands for the Maidu Indians. They are a proud people Indigenous to Placer County and surrounding counties of Northern California.

Many Maidu have survived the catastrophe of indiscriminate force used by the government of early times to decimate the Indian population, their language, traditions and practices.

The Native First People remember... "it was not that long ago that if you saw strangers coming, you hid your children. But the strangers kept coming back until they found the children. The Maidu's homes were more than land. Generations lived and died there, forever.
The land had become sacred to us. Being forced to leave your home was like a death, both for the child taken and for those left behind."
Sahtehpoo, a Native Maidu says, "Stealing a child is a crime now. My Dad was taken as a young boy, when there were no laws to protect Indian children. In fact, there was a law allowing them to be taken. My Dad did not like the way he was treated. Our traditions and language were taken away but not stamped out completely. These are hard to get back, but we are a very persistent People."

Lady Mary Polissa survived the Trail of Tears. This photo taken in 1892. The treatment given the Maidu Indians is Indecent.
Maiduan Indian families preserved their traditional culture In spite of European Impacts.
This Information was learned at the Maidu Indian Museum in Roseville, California and has made a deep Impression on me.

AS SEEN THROUGH THE FORT WINDOWS

The rugged brick window openings of Fort Point made perfect frames for the Golden Gate Bridge.

You can see the surfers going towards shore when the photos are enlarged.

Beautiful day to be able to stand directly under The Bridge.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " H "

Today is ABC Wednesday and our letter HAPPENS to be
" H ".
HALLWAYS from Fort Point, San Francisco is the perfect word for the letter " H ".
Usually the Fort is HUGGED by a HEAVY blanket of fog.
HAPPILY last Saturday was warm and sunny.
The green seen on the brick casements is mold from the damp conditions.
Enlarging each picture will HELP you see the detail more clearly.

Fort Point is directly below the Golden Gate Bridge and built in 1853 as protection to the entrance of San Francisco Bay.
If you look closely at this photo and also the first one you can see the circular lines HEWN into the floor for the cannon placements.

I love the HEAVENLY view of the San Francisco skyline and Alcatraz.
This was taken from the top of the Fort.

Be sure enlarge each picture to get a better look.

Lastly, the most important possession a Cavelry man HAS besides HIS rifle is HIS trusty HORSE.
I'm HAPPY you dropped by to see my postings for the letter "H".

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " G "

Today's letter for ABC Wednesday is the letter " G ".
This picture is of the GRINDING Morter Rocks just a few miles from our home.
The Maidu Indians made the GENTLE hills and ravines their home. The women went down to the creek and GROUND their acorns into a GRUEL and flour for their daily meals.

" G " is for GEARS. My GUESS is these are part of an airplane engine and GUIDE the plane in flight.

My Last " G " for today is GIZMOS. All the GEARS and GIZMOS can be seen on the back of this GLITZY antique fire truck.

GO ahead and enlarge the pictures to get the GRAND perspective.
