ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " X "

I can't believe we are almost at the end of the alphabet again.
Today's letter is " X ".
On the first day of decorating for our church Christmas programs I was watching our friend Jeff way up on the lift.
It dawned on me that I was looking at my " X " post right there in front of my nose.
So I grabbed my camera and took a picture. When I explained why I was taking this picture people thought I was a bit strange.
I don't think Jeff believes people from all over the world will see him up in the rafters.

EXPLODING CATTAILS

Our backyard looks like its snowing. The Cattails are exploding and the breeze is taking the little seeds and fuzz every which way.
Maybe that's why my eyes are so itchy.

BELATED MERRY CHRISTMAS

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. This is late due to a virus that attacked my computer.
My son was able to get rid of it but it certainly mixed up my computer and photoblogging.
We had a wonderful holiday full of music, good food and family. Santa was so good to us too.
I hope it was the same for you.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " W "

This wiley and winsome wild creature is my contribution to ABC Wednesday.
The Warthog has got to be one of the strangest beasts I have ever seen.
"Pumba" (the Disney character from The Lion King) posed so nicely for us while we were on our African safari.



Many wild animals wandered down to drink from the river directly below our Safari tents.
The Warthog was one of them.



Isn't this water beauty a true winner?



Did you know that Warthogs kneel on their front knees to graze the grasses?
I wonder what God was thinking when he created Warthogs.

THE COLORS OF CHRISTMAS

The red and gold of the Christmas season really get me into the spirit of the holidays.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " V "

Today is ABC Wednesday and we are nearing the end of the alphabet.
Today's letter is " V ".
" V " is for Vulture.
We viewed this huge bird on our Kenyan safari last August.
Our driver ventured fairly close so we could see if he had a victim for his daily vittles or victuals.



He was apparently looking for his next meal.
Look at those powerful looking legs and vicious appearing talons.
I could have used the Vultures' head last week for the
letter " U " .....UGLY.....



The Vultures view is the vast Savanna where a variety of vermin will become his vitamin enriched meal.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING

Christmas is just around the corner. It seems to be coming faster than I'm prepared for it to be.
Parties, baking and gifts to prepare....but most of all, the birth of Jesus.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " U "

Yesterday was an Unusual and Unique day in the Sacramento Valley.
We had snow! It just doesn't happen here. I think that Mother Nature had the Urge to produce something Utterly special for ABC Wednesday since the letter of the day is " U ".



Umber and grey were the colors of the morning.



A few years ago, while working in New York, we rode by the United Nations building. We were Unable to visit it. The U.N. wasn't in session. You can tell because there are no flags on the flagpoles.



This crane is Up way too high for me. It would give me an Upset tummy to be walking on the beam as the man is doing on the far left of the crane. To see him more clearly just click on the picture to enlarge it.

SNOW IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA

This is what we woke up to this morning. It began about 3 AM, giving us a winter wonderland.
I know to those of you in other parts of the country this is no big deal. For those of us in the Sacramento Valley it really is special. We just don't get snow.
Our backyard looks so pretty with the pines dusted with snow.



We are basically at sea level and haven't seen snow in many years.
The streets were clear but everyone's yard looks so pretty and white.



Its sad to see it melting but there is still a dusting more than 2 hours after I took these shots.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " T "

ABC Wednesday has arrived at the letter T this week.
This theme is all about Texture. Look at all the texture in the first picture, the ridges of the fallen log against the overgrown grasses.



I really like the textures of the decaying wood brace of the old wagon against the rusting metal.



The old brick has a weathered look which Time has scoured.



Time has also worked on this old building. All the different wood colors give a lot of texture to this shot.
