ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " K "

What else could I do this time around for ABC Wednesday Letter " K " but Kenya?
Its still so fresh on my mind. First its the Kids of Kenya. The Kids were always Keeping an eye out for us and wanting our full attention.

Kenya is very diverse and the landscape is eerily beautiful. The mountains in the distance are at least 8000 feet in altitude.
The semi-arid valley is almost 6000 feet. It kind of made us puff and pant a bit.

Some of the typical open air markets in the surrounding small villages of Kenya.

As in many places in our world, its survival of the fittest. I think perhaps this was a goat that served as dinner for the not so kindly hyeneas.

Please enlarge to see more detail.
Thanks for all your well wishes. Its taken 7 full days to feel like I am back among the living. Don't get the Flu...its awful.

NOT FEELING SO GOOD

I guess I have the creeping crude. Called the advice nurse when my temperature got to 103.5
All the typical things about forcing fluids and plenty of rest. I can't believe how much I have slept and feel like I need more. If things don't change in 2 more days they will reascess my condition. So I don't think I will be on Photowannabe until this passes.
Thanks for all your well wishes. They are most appreciated.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " J "

Here we are at almost the middle of the alphabet and the letter is " J ".
" J "
is for Jumbo, Juicy Pomegranates. Yesterday we picked the first pomegranates of the season from our tree.
Wonderful Hubby peeled 10 of them and now we have just the Juicy seeds to enjoy.

I am feeling a bit under the weather so I am posting this early and will jump back in bed for a while.

To see what others have posted for the letter J click on Mrs Nesbitts link on my sidebar.
As always, enlarging the picture will show more detail.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " I "

I know this is an incredibly early ABC Wednesday. My schedule says do it now or not at all.
The letter for this post is " I ". " I " is for Icons. Pictured are the three eras of military air power, a prop-driven P-51 Mustang from World War II, an F-86 Sabre from the Korean War and a modern F-22 Raptor. These are all Icons of military transportation.
You must enlarge this shot. Its the best way to see the detail of the Icons.

THE STEALTH BOMBER

Our family visited the California Capital Airshow this weekend. One of the hightlights was seeing the Stealth Bomber doing some manuevers right over our heads.

The skies were murky and threatened rain most of the day. We were glad the cloud cover was high enough that the show wasn't cancelled.

The Bomber is a strange, silent, awesome sight.

Wish these were a bit better but its the best my camera would do.
Of course enlarging them will give you a closer view.

THE END OF SUMMER

I am fascinated by the centers of flowers. This sunflower is no exception.
Look at the detail. Isn't it amazing?

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " H "

Today is ABC Wednesday and what else could I do for the letter H for Hippos?
In the early light of dawn we were able to see a large "herd" of Hippos in a water hole.

This guy was huge and had the grunt to prove it.

I wanted to post this picture to show how close we could actually get to these huge beasts. This was the only time we were allowed out of our van. A Kenya Safari is the best for seeing animals in their natural habitat.
Be sure to enlarge the pictures to see the detail.

CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO WORLDS

California Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento
The two Cavelry men from the 1850's seem to be considering whether to step out of character and go eat at Joe's.
The juxiposition just tickled my funny bone.
Enlarging the picture will show more detail.

GOLD RUSH DAYS

Once again its time for California Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento.
Its fun to walk down the cobble stone streets covered with dirt and feel like one is in the 1850's.
There were fake gun fights and melodramas and of course plenty of things to look at and eat.
Don't forget to enlarge the photo to see the detail of the horses.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " G "

Today is ABC Wednesday and our letter is " G ".
What else could I put but some pictures of the Giraffe we saw on our trip to Kenya?

The last two days of our trip were spent on a safari at the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
We stopped at a spot where a mother and two baby giraffe were ambling along.
The babies (really tall babies) were so curious and walked right up to our van.

They were so close we could have petted their noses. One of the giraffes hadn't lost its umbilical cord yet so we know they were quite young.

Don't you just love this expression? I guess he was as happy to see us as we were to see him.
For others posting the letter G just click on Mrs. Nesbitts link on my sidebar. I know you will gather some great G pictures.
Enlarging each photo will give you more detail.
