Thankful Thursday
I thought I would share a few thoughts about my Wordless Wednesday post from yesterday.
It could perhaps be titled ... "The Light at the End of the Tunnel".
Tomorrow is the first of May. Will it be a full speed ahead month? How are we ... am I ... going to approach it?
Is this tunnel making you feel like the issues of the day are pressing in on you and the resolve is a long way off?
Or is it one of "Thank Goodness April is done" Now on to other things?
There are so many ways to look at my photo. I'm just curious what your reactions are.
About the tunnel. Its called the Tom Lantos Tunnels (there are 2, one for each direction.) They were finally completed in 2013 and are the longest tunnels in our state of California, over 4000 feet of rock quarried road to get people through a mountain and a difficult part of Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast Highway.
It is located 15 miles from San Francisco and between my hometown of Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. The area is called Devil's Slide and that highway was closed often due to huge rock landslides and very unstable ground.. The scenery was gorgeous but the highway was always a bit sketchy. I drove that route often to go to places along the coast but truthfully I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore. I do miss the ocean scenery though.
My photo archives are so jumbled up that I can't find the photos of the Devils Slide coastline. Here are a few photos of our views of the Pacific Ocean just a mile and a half from our home. The coastline is so rugged and beautiful. Enjoy.

I like your first quote. The year is going by too fast for me. That is very interesting about the tunnels. The ocean looks beautiful. Yes, memories can be the best. God did create a beautiful world.
Good lessons from your tunnel photo. The ocean photos are gorgeous! Someday I would love to see the Pacific ocean in person.
The first thing I had thought of was the light at the end of the tunnel. And now I see what could be Heaven at the end of the light! Your other photos are wildness at it's best.
Remember the movie with Lana Turner and it was filmed at Devil's slide? Portrait in Black. I remember them talking about the tunnel back in the 60's and back then no one wanted it. We used to go over it to play Half Moon Bay high school football and we teens would fool around like we were going over the cliffs. Crazy kids. I miss the ocean too, but not Pacifica the way it is now. I liked it better when there were still farms back in the valley and everyone knew each other.
Funny you named your photo " light at the end of the tunnel" because that's the name of my post today. Great minds, think alike!
Those ocean photos stir my very soul! It's been many years since I've been to the Pacific ocean, but I always preferred it to the (milder) Atlantic.
Your opening image and quote is a keeper; I want to put that in my Treasure box.
I like to think of this photo as "The Light at the end of the tunnel." It truly is a pretty tunnel and goodness...the view when you come out of that tunnel is AMAZING... Well worth going through a long tunnel to see this view... When we were in California visiting our grandson and family a couple of years ago, we went to the ocean near Pismo Beach and even though it was cold, it was a wonderful place to visit and see. If I ever get the chance to go back to California...I hope to be able to visit you and Dave...❤️❤️
I love that picture of the tunnel, and the caption seems very appropriate.
What a beautiful tunnel and the view coming out is fantastic. Oh how I do love the ocean. Your photography is always stunning. Always sending love and hugs.
The scenery at the end of the tunnel seems to make the journey worthwhile, Sue.
Light at the end of the tunnel is perfect. I loved those ocean waves!
What a treat with the views after coming out of the tunnels. Thanks for the additional info on them. Right now I think I'm feeling like the tunnels are closing in on me
I love your opening quote/photo. It's good to think of each day as a new day to begin anew and fresh. "Yesterday's gone, and tomorrow may never come, but we have this moment today". (Bill and Gloria Gaither) I loved the tunnel picture and yes, I see "the light at the end of the tunnel". I always breathe a sigh of relief once I get through a long tunnel. And so it is with life...when we are going through the dark tunnels of grief or sorrow or anxiety, it is always such a welcome sight to see that light at the end of it all. Thank you for sharing the history of this tunnel and the gorgeous pictures along the coastline. I've never been to the Pacific west coast. It certainly is a lot "wilder" than our Eastern coast on the Atlantic. But it definitely has an amazing beauty in all of its wildness and danger. I believe it must truly help form the character of those who must drive along that road regularly. You are very brave souls! This was a very interesting and enlightening post today. Thank you.
Light at the end of the tunnel...yes, that is a good way to view your photo. We all have those times when we are glad things are coming to an end. At this stage of life, I try to enjoy each day. However, the months pass by quite fast. I can't believe it is already May. Thank you for linking up.
I love the one of the ocean... they're all wonderful but I can hear the roar of the water...
hugs
Donna
