THE NEIGHBOR'S BOUNTY

Our neighbor, Hye, grows so many wonderful things in her garden.

A few years ago she put in a Fig tree that likes to show off now that it is mature.

These lovely figs are just bursting at the seams.  I'm not sure when they are ripe but I think I may have to try one soon.

Do you like figs?  Fig Newtons used to be my favorite cookie.

Wishing all of you a great weekend.  Hope the weather will cool down.

Happy First Day of August.

Always be Grateful

Always be Kind

I've not eaten a Fig Newton in years ... decades, really. Nevertheless, just the mention of them and I can taste that deliciousness in my mind all over again. Simple pleasures!

I am patiently waiting for my figs to ripen. Oh goodness, Fig preserves are a favorite and I'm sure hoping to have enough figs to make several jars. So kind of your neighbor to share their bounty. BTW...fig newtons have always been the top cookie for me.. Happy August 1st...it is very hot here, but I guess this is what August is supposed to be like.

I've never really had figs. But they are pretty, aren't they? They don't grow around here...

I wouldn't know what to do with a fresh fig, but I do like Fig Newtons...actually "Little Debbie" makes a nice fig bar that is much less expensive and very good. I do remember that we made fig bars when I was a child, but I don't know where my mother got the figs to put in them. Seems like they had a crust that was made with oatmeal and whatever else...sugar, butter? I'd have to look at the recipe. They sure were good. Or wait, were those Date Bars? That might be what they were...seem slike they would be very similar. It's been a LONG time!! Happy August!!!

I LOVE FIGS!!! I keep Fig Jam in the frig all the time. Our TJMAXX has a wonderful variety. When we lived in Bell Gardens and Pastored a Babtist Church there was a hug fig tree in the front yard. It was then I found out a lot of people Do NOT like figs. We had so many I hung plastic bags on the fence and a sign FREE ~ AS MANY AS YOU WANT!! Didn't have many takers.
They are wonderful on sour dough toast with cream cheese!! Yum!

I have never tried fresh figs. We never see them here. I loved dried ones though.

I do like fig newtons but that's the only way I've ever had figs. I wouldn't know what one looked like when it was ripe

Our fig tree just up and died on us after producing so well for years so this is the first summer without figs. I like Paul Newman’s brand of fig newtons -
