Happy Friday !
I had all sorts of ideas for my Friday post but a commotion outside my "office" dining room window caught my attention.
The branches of the plants by the window were really bobbing up and down.
We have been watching what we thought were blue jays making a nest and zooming back and forth in our nearby tree.
Today I spied two little (well not really too little) bundles of feathers.
The babies have Fledged.
These aren't very clear but they are so fun to watch. I have been trying to capture photos of the parents but without success. Very pointy beak blue back white breast and rather long tail feathers. I think they are mockingbirds but I haven't heard any melodies from them. Used to hear "jay" chatter though. They don't have the crest of the jays in my book.
So the hunt is on for some decent photos for id.

Well aren’t they sweet! Are you known to have mockingbirds in your trees? Have you heard any of their nocturnal vocalizations? I’ve only heard them at night at other places I have lived and have not seen any around here. Once we heard this one mockingbird carrying on at night and it was annoying - this was in Redwood City. All the neighbors had bloodshot eyes and were trying to figure out where it came from. Then one night we heard it and then it stopped. One of the neighbors admitted to shooting it with his BB gun.
I’m leaning that the babies are blue jays. I haven’t seen their babies but we have many around here, branch hopping as they terrorize the woodpeckers in our cedars. lol. What a commotion they all make in the morning!
Can’t wait till you figure out the mystery
It is so cool to be able to watch them growing up! Every year, the House Finches start a nest in the little tree outside or window. But it always comes to nothing. Likely one of the many cats around here. I look forward to more pics and seeing them grow!
What a lovely moment to witness. There’s something so endearing about fledglings finding their way, unsure and wide-eyed. I could picture them sitting still, convinced they’re hidden in plain sight. Sounds like it might be a mockingbird family, even if they’re being unusually quiet. I hope you’re able to catch a shot of the parents soon. I really enjoy how you share these everyday moments with such warmth and attention.
You have a great view of them. It's so fun to watch!
I am watching baby doves and have not gotten a single photo. can't do it with my cell. your babies are so cute. I like my window on the world too
It's always fun to watch the progress of a nest
That's so cool! What a blessing to be witness to these babies' firsts!
That is a fun thing to see. We have a nest over the door however tucked away good and deep. Sadly, we did find one of the babies on the ground. Far gone. The rest though, chirpy chirps.
Oh how wonderful! You are an eye witness to God's creation in the making right before your eyes. I love watching new life making its debut into the world. What a blessing!! Thank you for sharing this with us. What a wonderful window on your world!!!
Oh I love the pictures. So reminds me of our doves we got to watch up close and personal several years ago. Love God's creation and will always remember His eye is on the Sparrow, and I KNOW he watches me! How are things looking for the yard sale? Can't remember if you have had it or it's coming up!
I am excited to see more pictures and to find out what kind of little feathered friends they are. We have a next of morning doves living on the electric pole outside our home. I enjoy watching them and watching the little ones learn to fly. Keep us up to date on your little darlings...Thinking of you all as your garage sell is coming up this next weekend...Hope the weather will be perfect and you have lots of buyers...Happy Saturday!!
What a wonderful window seat you have there. Good luck with the photos!
They look so cute. Hope you have a nice weekend.
They were so precious. Hope you get to see them grow up for awhile.
What a fun view. Hope you can get a shot of the parents soon so you can identify what kind of birds they are--and we can see the pictures too.
