YESTERDAY'S SAGA

Yesterday truly was a saga to end all sagas.

Dave and I went to the DMV to do our applications for our California REAL ID licenses.  We had downloaded our documents and everything was going smoothly on line.

Dave got his with no problem at all,  just time waiting in line.

Me ...  not so good.  When I got my turn and presented my documents the lady at the counter said " where is your marriage certificate?"  I said what do you mean?  I didn't see anything like that on the list.  She said rather snottily, well your name is now different than on your birth certificate so we need a certified document marriage certificate.  I was so in shock that I really wasn't thinking too clearly.  She said you have to have one to proceed .  I'm thinking 61 years of marriage and now I have to prove I am who I am.

Our passports had expired just 4 months ago and weren't valid any longer.  If I had had that there would have been no problem.

So

We drive home and go to our safety deposit box and right on top is our marriage certificate.   DRIVE back to the DMV, get in line and finally show it to the lady at the counter.  She says I'm sorry but this isn't a certified registered copy.  Its just the one the minister gives you after the ceremony.  Its legal but not the one from vital statistics.  You have to go to the place of registry and then we can complete your app.

By this time my head is beginning to spin.  We go home and say we can't get to San Francisco  3 hour drive each way to get that silly piece of paper.

Hmm

What to do.  We then think lets go to our local post office and see about renewing our passports.  Jump in the car again and the post office says they only do first time passports but give us a renewal form to do it at home.  Passport would take over 3 weeks to get to us ... SIGH ...

So we go back home and we both get on our computers and Dave finally gets into the right vital statistics place on line and we pay for a new certified registered copy of our marriage certificate.

Hopefully it will arrive before the deadline of May 7..  Sometimes the wheels of government move so slowly..  Prayers going up.

My head is banging ...

We are both Grumpy

The whole day has been in and out of the car, rummaging through things and trying to trust the Lord through it all.

This is kind of how we were and are feeling...

A Total Wreck

If you have made it through this monologue .. Kudos to you and we are asking for your prayer support too.

Whew..

Thank you

STOP THE WORLD....I WANT TO GET OFF!!!!! Oh Sue, what a Saga!! It reminds me when Don was old enough to get his Social Security. Easy Peasy. Not when you don't have your birth certificate. Long story short, Call the registrar inn Cinn Ohio, find the birth certificate and when it comes only to find out his legal birthday is November 14, 1937 not December 14, 1937 which he has celebrated his entire life....Like yourself, it took days, and weeks to get it figured out, and then he had to change all legal documents to the new birthdate!!!! We really need to pray for DMV... Hopefully your new one will come before the deadline. I love your illustration of how you and Dave are feeling. Picture Perfect!!

Oh my word! I would be grumpy too! Government paperwork is never easy, and those people are often pretty grumpy themselves. I suppose they have to follow the rules and get sick of people being mad at them, but a nice attitude would go a long way. Praying for you!

I've been hearing stories like this would happen, but I didn't expect to hear it from you. Ugh... What a pain in the backside.

Imagine trying to vote and not having the proper documents... This is the new America.

Oh my goodness Sue, I would be so grumpy too. That was so frustrating. What happens to you on May 7 if you don't have it done? I pray it gets there on time.
Blessed Good Friday!

Hey Sue. Answering you back. Same with me on the macro. It's where my heart lives. Just got in from taking a few shots. Gonna see how they came out.

We've had our Gold Star Georgia DL's since 2012. The list we had did include bringing the marriage license, thankfully. It was easy peasy. Sorry yours was such a saga. Blessings. ✝️

Oh my GOSH!! What a red tape nightmare! And to think that the original certificate wasn't even good enough for them. You have every right to be grumpy. Grump on.

Oh man, what a nightmare.

Yeah, I checked all that I would need. I also need my divorce paperwork and my marriage license to husband #2. I did check, and I can file after May 7 - we're not planning any flights - my husband already has his. I can still get onto a military base with my DoD military dependent card - I just can't fly commercial. So I will get it done, when I get it done, and don't have to worry about the May 7 deadline. Heck, if I have to, I'll bring the whole file cabinet.

Good grief, lady! This sounds worse than an old Rod Serling episode ... even Candid Camera. And they wonder when (some) people "go postal."
Fortunately, our process went relatively easy. I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief b/c I never thought about the marriage certificate name change. I'd have had to wrangle 3 -- and honestly have no idea where/when the first was issued. I'd say you and Dave owe yourselves a special treat for enduring this nonsense.

Good grief. After all these years, now you have to supply a certified marriage certificate. I pray the required document shows up in time. You must be exhausted!

Oh dear you poor thing. That is so nerve-racking dealing with red tape and uncaring people. We had a similar instant a long time ago when trying to remorgage our house. They wouldn't accept our marriage certificate but the legal one was kept somewhere in Papua New Guinea where we were married over fifty years ago. Finally they accepted our birth certificates and passports.

Oh my word. Two trips to the DMV and you still didn't get your real ID. What a hassle. I hope you get it all straightened out soon.

What a mess. I need to do mine in a few months. I did renew my passport so do you think that I will need my marriage certificate too? I do know that on the passport renewal forms I had to put my maiden name on it. This has made me so nervous just reading it. I can't believe all that you went through and it still wasn't good enough. Praying it all get worked out soon for you. ((HUGS))

Bless your heart and Dave's too! Our local office is notorious for always demanding paper work...I can't tell how many times we all have had to go search for papers. I'm like...why can't you just use the information about me that has been in your system for 50 something years. I'm putting this need on my prayer list for you all...that everything will be done before the deadline. Keeping you in my prayers.

I know that we also had to produce a other of documentation when we aplied for our RealID here in NH, but cant recall ay issues (thankfully). I have never changed from my maiden to married name so there was no issue with any name changes. It sounds like bureaucracy was really against you, Sue, and what a shame!
