MONDAY TRADITIONS ?

Back a few years ago Monday had some certain traditions.

Mainly it was called "Wash Day".

I thought I would share a few photos from 2006.

I can't believe it was so many years ago that Dave and I were there.

Wash Day in Hinche, Haiti.

The locals heading down to the river to wash their clothes.

Oh my aching neck and head !

Laundry on the compound where we stayed.

I am so grateful for clean water and machines that do most of the work.

Be sure to enlarge the photos to see the detail.

How does your Monday go?

I may be old-fashioned but Monday is still laundry day for me. It starts my work week out right.

Yes, we are so fortunate to have so many labour-saving machines to do our laundry for us. As a child, we had a "copper" to boil all the whites, hand wash the sweaters, and run everything through the mangle before hanging it all on the line outside. And then it all had to be ironed! Even the underwear!

I love the shot of her with the yellow basket. makes my head hurt to look at it though.. we are so blessed to have our washer/dryers. I wonder why all the wash is laid out on the ground, some hanging some not

Aren't we so blessed and lucky to be here?

It reminds me of how my grandmother had to wash clothes. We are so fortunate.

I get tired just thinking about doing laundry by hand...I wonder if we would change clothes as often? I am waiting on a washer to be delivered...but I had a hard time choosing one. The last one I had, I did not like. But I told my friend, anything will be better than washing by hand with a washboard.

Sometimes I would not mind having a wringer washer, though. My mom had one and I always helped with the washing.

Thought-provoking photos. My childhood wash day memories are of helping my mother take the laundry from the close line. The sunshiny smell made it seem like all was right with the world.
