ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " V "

Today is ABC Wednesday and we are nearing the end of the alphabet.
Today's letter is " V ".
" V " is for Vulture.
We viewed this huge bird on our Kenyan safari last August.
Our driver ventured fairly close so we could see if he had a victim for his daily vittles or victuals.

He was apparently looking for his next meal.
Look at those powerful looking legs and vicious appearing talons.
I could have used the Vultures' head last week for the
letter " U " .....UGLY.....

The Vultures view is the vast Savanna where a variety of vermin will become his vitamin enriched meal.
Enlarging the pictures will show more detail.
To see what others have posted for the letter " V " go to Mrs. Nesbitts link on my sidebar.

Sue, All I can say is thank goodness those big birds are in Africa and not anything like the vultures in my neighborhood!

Great photos as usual!

He actually looks quite nice. Mind you, I wouldn't want to come across one while I were out in the desert...

They aren't really beautiful, are they? :) I always find the size of their thighs a little frightening (they are about the same size as mine!) Terrific photos, btw!

Well, I suppose they serve a purpose in the food chain.

Great shot! I agree they are so ugly, but as a friend pointed out, they do have their purpose in this world--helping to clean up litter, so to speak:)

I agree with Rose. They have their purpose. Clever use of words starting with 'V' Sue! - Dave

Looks very much in charge!

Vulture are nature's clean-up crew, they do not kill, but feed on carcasses of already dead animals.

it looks huge in those empty fields

I admire vultures a lot. They clean up a lot of dead animals (I don't think they eat live ones), and they are very clean. They preen for 30 minutes. And what they excrete is very clean.

I have never found those birds particularly attractive, but your photos of them are terrific. Isn't it wonderful to be able to visit another country and be able to take photos. Great memories.

Well, that's an unusual alternative to the Christmas turkey!!

Whatever species they are they look prettier than the usual scrawny neck ones, or perhaps you have taken flatering photographs.

Vicious-looking beak, too! Good thing he prefers carrion. ;)

What a great view of the vulture! Not a character I would want to meet.
Well done on V.

Great shots! I've only seen vultures at the zoo. Well, I think I've seen them in the air in CA or was it Mexico? Can't remember, but they are HUGE!

And U is for ugly! The bird, of course, not your photo.
