ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " E "
ABC Wednesday is here and the letter is " E ". " E " stands for Ears.
The traditional older men of the Maasai culture enlarge their earlobes.
Here you can see that Soloman has earlobes that are quite enlarged.
Pastor Paul has much smaller holes and stretching of his lobes.
Enlarging these pictures will show the ears more clearly.
We often saw men looping the excess skin over the top of the ear, but Solomon always wore his this way.
Please check out Mrs. Nesbitts link on my sidebar to see what others have posted for the letter " E ".

What handsome people! The earlobe stretching process must be started in childhood I would think.
Beauty around the world is expressed in so many ways.
Fantastic portraits!
I did ears too...but nothing as interesting at your post. Got to say...I am thinking it must be uncomfortable process to get your ears to that state.
Very nice photos, you capture these colorful people so well. Very nice, thank you for sharing. It is extremely interesting.
Very interesting and from the moment I saw him I thought Maasai. Great shots.
Oh my, I wouldn't want to get anything caught in those ears. Very handsome people, and great photos. Thank you.
Excellent photos! Elegant people...
So interesting to see how different cultures define beauty. Great E post.
très belles photos, tu nous fait découvrir des gens très gentils
very nice photographs, hushed up makes us discover very nice people
Really excellent portraits. They so handsome and so expressive.
It looks quite bizarre to my Western eyes, but each culture has its own idea of beauty, for sure! Maybe this one started out as a trial of stoicism as a test of manhood or something. Unique and interesting, for sure!
Amazing! What people do to enhance their appearances is incredible!
Thanks for showing!
I know I'd never want to do that.
Nice. I am enjoying seeing your adventures in photos.
Everybody is so clever on these posts. E for ears! So close and I didn't even think of it. Incredible photos. Isn't diversity amazing?!!
extraordinary idea.
Wonderful photos! Beautiful people!
People have such interesting and different traditions. I wonder how the ear-stretching custom got started...
How interesting. I never knew.
I just love ABC Wednesday. I learn about the world and all the fantastic people who live here.
Thank you.

These are great photos ....such a different culture...so glad you shared these with us...
Interesting shots. How long were you in Kenya?
Isn't it interesting what can be done to the human body. Wonder if they ever get in the way. Great photos.
Oh, they are still doing those "decorations" to themselves! I remember, when my teacher told in my school about this and about women, who did it their lower lips. We had a photo in our book about those women, I remember feeling almost pain, when I imagined that operation as a child :)
So interesting and make really think about many things!
Great E photos! That last one made me cringe, though! Thanks for stopping by mine!
This was quite an interesting post. Your photos are fantastic. This must be a beautiful thing in that country. It's a little freaky for me, but I suppose we learn to like what we grow up around.
o my what a thing to do to your ears - each to their own i guess.
Is enlarging the earlobe thought to be a form of beautification? Or does it have religious significance? Fascinating!
This man has a gentle smile and the same expression on his face but I am feeling strange while looking at his ears. Your photos are excellent.
Very interesting custom. I would be scared I'd get my ears caught in a twig or something. What a handsome guy!
Sue, I love your photos. I just finished watching a documentary about the Lost Boys of Sudan. I'm always in awe of what these people have endured and what it is that we consider hard times.
hi, grandma. loved the ear pictures, but thought them to be kind of weird in a way.
Fascinating to learn about other cultures. It looks painful.
And my husband (in spite of his ear-ring obsessed wife and daughters) classes simple pierced ears as self-mutilation :) Thes are handsome people.
Thanks for the visit, and for this fascinating information.
Yeah,Beauty around the world is expressed in so many ways...
cheers!!

've enjoyed all of your photos from your trip to Kenya, but as on past trips, your portraits are tops! It's easy to see that you had a rapport with the people you photographed.
