THE BLOOMING RIVER
I was so surprised to see the American River blooming at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael, California. I took this last weekend and the River was flowing at a pretty good clip. Near the shore, in only one place, did I find this pink bloom in the water.
Have a great weekend everyone.
As always, enlarging the photo will show more detail.

Oh that's beautiful! I love the colour contrast. It looks like a painting.. almost too lovely to be real. Great pic!
surprenant, c'est quoi ? on dirait que la rivière saigne.
Surprisingly, what? it seems that the river bleeding.
strange but beautiful!
beautiful contrast
I wish to you and your family all the best for the new year
The photo looks good enlarged Sue. - Dave
This really looks lovely especially when the photo is enlarged. It is also interesting for me to see a peace of wood, some stones and vegetation in the water with some sky blueness in it. So many natural details at one place framed in one photo.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your thoughtfulness and for your friendly comment on my blog. You cannot imagine how much that means to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Have a wonderful weekend!
This is lovely!!
Oh wow...we get green slimey stuff but not this pretty pink! My guess is there is an over abundance of nutrients in the water. I know that is not a good thing for the health of the lake, at least not when we get the green stuff here.
Excellent shot.
Hi, Sue,
I'm sorry I haven't been around with comments...been busy with one busy little girl. Now she's back home and I'm trying to get back to normal (whatever that is.) I hope you had a good Christmas and will have a good new year.
That's a beautiful little flower! I wonder what it is...
Lovely photo:)
Beautiful!
Oh wow, nice and unique.
A blooming river.... how special ~~ is there a scent to the flowers?
Happy weekend to you too and yours!
An extraordinary blooming photo, nice!
How unusual! I've never seen anything like that before!
Hi SUe!
Interesting shot! this pink bloom is misterious for me!
Happy new year and also congratulations to your Hubby!
Have lovely weekend :)
We had a snowfall in Madrid! everything is beautiful!
In Australia that type of bloom isn't welcome. Maybe yours is different.
Lovely colours, but what causes that pink bloom? Is it dangerous?
I liked this one Sue.. a new addition for my desktop :)
I saw something like this from the air last year. It is always surprising to me, although I don't know why. Nature is so amazing.
it looks really special. I had to look at it for long to discover what exactly it was:)
wow beautifull photo
Artistic and beautiful
I like your river much better than mine. Near my house, the Thames (yes, the "other" London has its own Thames River) is frozen. I think I need to record it with my camera. Hang on...
what a beautiful picture - and the pinks in the middle of winter!
I know it's a little late, but still, I want to wish you a great 2009 year.
How interesting -- I don't think I've ever run across a bloom like that...
These red algae blooms are the stuff that English folklore thrived on. In the distant past it was thought that the gods were angry turning the rivers and lakes red with blood. The lack of oxygen and toxins produced by the accompanying bacteria would kill the fish and render the water poisonous only adding to the locals fear...
what makes it pink, Sue? Not algae, is it??? For a second when I first looked at it, it looked like cranberry bog :)
Oh I love these! Thanks for your comment on my posts! I always enjoy hearing from you!
