My ignorance is showing all over the place. I thought I knew a lot of trees and flowers, but I really am not sure what this one is called. It also has strange spiny little balls hanging now that it has turned to Fall. The picture is a bit dark due to a sudden Thunderstorm which halted my outdoor pictures for a short time.

This is strange. They look like maple leaves but I haven't seen those prickly things on a maple tree. I have maples leaves posted today too.
I too don’t know what it is called but it is nice and interesting as well as the perspective the photo was taken.

Those prickley parts or seed pods are a big nuisance to walk around if barefoot.
Those leaves are beautiful... and I had no idea what the prickly thing was. Nice detail of it!
We have those around here. They look like a maple variety. I do see those pods on the ground dried and opened. We called them sticky balls when we were kids because they were so spiky. When the pods dry out they remind me of baby bird beaks.

sweetgum tree! :) there are many here.
We have Sweetgum trees in Arkansas too. I learned about them on my tree-identification walk the other day.

Sweetgum Tree. The bain of everyone's yard here. A beautiful tree until the balls fall. Then you have to rake them up and there can be hundreds! I have seen more of these trees removed than any other here in Missouri.
Fortunately mine froze in the late frost this year, not a single sweetgum ball on the whole tree. It's going to be a wonderful spring!

These trees grow even here in Vienna! I was so happy to discover those old friends here. I have seen Christmas decorations fashioned out of those nut shells.
Leave it to Abe. At first it reminded me of a plane/sycamore.
I think that is the one Meg called amber liquid (kind of maple tree that we have just outside of bed room).
A great sweetgum shot. The little ball thingies always seemed like alien creatures to me. Especially enlarged like in this photo.
