SUNFLOWER AT APPLE HILL

A lot of the Sunflowers at Apple Hill were past their prime but a few were still basking in the warm Fall day. Even the bees and flies enjoyed the day .
Be sure to enlarge this shot to see the detail.

brilliant colour; blue and yellow is always a winner

What a beautiful image! I like so much the contrast between the yellow sunflower and the wonderful blue sky. I think I can see a bee and a fly there. Just beautiful!

Brilliant! :-)

Here, the sunflowers in the fields turned brown and their seeds ripe, some weeks ago. Only in gardens, one can still spot the one or other late bloomer.

Do you know Ed Blair's poem? Here's part of it:

An Ode to the
Kansas Sunflower.
Oh sunflower! The queen of all flowers,
No other with you can compare,
The roadside and fields are made golden
Because of your bright presence there.
Above all the weeds that surround you
You raise to the sun your bright head,
Embroidering beautiful landscapes
Your absence would leave brown and dead.

Oh queen of the September morning
You watch for the first ray of sun,
And salute the bright orb as it travels
Till the bright day of autumn is done.
Tho' sickles may slay in the pasture,
And the plowman destroy in the field,
Yet, still will the corners and by-ways
The seed for the future years yield.

I had already voiced my concern for you about the fires over in my place, but guessed you were too far north, thank heavens. Much better to see California looking like these latest shots from you!

It must be nice to actually have a fall this year, ours seems to have slipped away already.

Very very beautiful. Love this shot. Didn't make it up to Apple Hill on the last trip. One of these days we will have to get together for a shoot!! It would be tons of fun. :) :) Aloha, Renee :)

My sunflowers in my pots are nearly a foot tall, Sue. Summer is definitely on its way!!!

Beautiful. Memories of summer! I will miss these things in a few months when I wake up every morning to scrape the ice of my car windows.

Nice shot! Like the way you use the sky for a background in this and the nut photo... Looks like the harvest is on in the Sacramento area...
