It hard to believe that we are so close to the end of the Alphabet. This will be my 4th time figuring out what to post for the Letter " X ".
The criss-cross of the railroad crossing was the closest I could get to an " X ".
Curious what others are posting for the letter " X "??

MORE PICTURES OF BREAKAWAY TO THE GREAT FRONTIER

This is the entrance to our Church Celebration Center which for this week was called "The Mine Shaft. "
There were pretty amazing faux rock formations out front with genuine ore mining cars and tracks. The rock formations were also made by talented volunteers from our church.
Be sure to enlarge the shots to see the detail.

My time was spent with these little 4 and 5 year old kiddos. I was part of the snack team. We had lots of hungry kids after they played on these waterslides. The temperature was at 98 degrees or around 39.5C. A perfect time to get wet.

Not the best picture composition-wise but I just loved the expression on this little guys face as he got ready to land in the pool.
Be sure to enlarge each photo for the best detail.

Ye Olde Hitchin' Post.
Giddie Up !
Now Breakaway is done for another year. What a fabulous time. 2800 kids....1000 adult volunteers...Fun, Fun , Fun.
You can go to the website for our church and see the pictures from this great adventure.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " W "

Abc Wednesday is here and the letter is " W ". " W " is for the Wild West theme
we have at our Church Day Camp this year. Its called Breakaway to the Great Frontier.

These pictures are from the entrance to the Church campus. All the town facades were built by very willing and talented volunteers.
The white tents you see on the inside are individual temporary classrooms built for 10 kids and 3 teachers and assistants each. Every inch of the campus is used and its a sea of little white tents.

There is a 3 hour morning session and then its repeated all over again in the evening, from Monday till Friday.
Between the two groups we have about 2800 kids from kindergarten to 5th grade, and almost as many volunteers helping.

There are skits, singing, dancing and all kinds of recreational activities. Waterslides, bounce houses and plenty of water and good wet fun. The temps. got into the low 100's F. today. In these pictures you can see the authentic wagon wheels and wagons.
That's why I have not visited many of your blogs this week.
I am up to my eyeballs in this great happening.
Enlarging each picture will give you a more detailed view.

LIFE IS JUST A BOWL OF CHERRIES

They are so sweet and wonderful. Wish I could share them with you all.
Its pure joy to eat things from our own garden.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " U "

Today is again ABC Wednesday and the letter is " U ".
" U "
stands for United Nations. While we were in Haiti in 2006 the United Nations peace keeping force had a very active presence.
There was a lot of violence surrounding elections and economic failure. Their presence gave us some sense of security while there.
Enlarging this shot will really show the men and their guns.
Be sure to check out what others are posting for ABC Wednesday.

A FEW MORE FROM BODIE, CALIFORNIA

Just a few more pictures from a fun daytrip a few weeks ago.
I love all the old rustic buildings and things just laying
around.

The bright noon day sun made taking good pictures
difficult for my camera, but these buildings captured my
imagination anyway.

A look at the past. Don't forget to enlarge the shots.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " T "

Today is ABC Wednesday and we have arrived at the Letter " T ".
" T " is for Tufa Towers. I took this picture a few weeks ago when we visited the Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve, which is located in California.
This Reserve was established to preserve the calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs with the alkaline lake waters. The Lake is about 65 square miles and is considered over 1 million years old, one of the oldest lakes in North America. Mono Lake has no outlet. Salt and minerals washed into the lake from Eastern Sierra streams. The freshwater evaporated leaving salt and minerals behind so that the lake is now about 2 1/2 times as salty and 80 times as alkaline as the ocean.
What you see in this late afternoon photo are Tufas. They are essentially common limestone.
Tufa Towers grow exclusively underwater and some even grow to heights of more than 30 feet. As the Lake has evaporated the Tufa Towers have become visible and look almost like a moonscape.
In all my years of living in California I had never been to Mono Lake and its Tufa Towers. It is definitely a must see amazing creation of nature.
This picture looks best enlarged.
