BODIE, CALIFORNIA TAKE 2

These pictures give you a glimpse of all the vintage equipment and fences just
sitting there begging to have their picture taken. You can see from the picture
above how desolete and treeless the area is. Bodie is in the high desert of California.

Very sharp barbed wire. The texture really shows up when enlarged.

I think this at one time was a gate since I see a hinge on the post.
Please enlarge the pictures to see the detail.

BODIE, CALIFORNIA

Over the next few days I will be sharing glimpses of our day trip to Bodie California.

Bodie is now a state historic park with only about 5% remaining of the buildings it contained during its 1880s heyday.

This is a genuine California gold mining ghost town which is now maintained in a state of "arrested decay".

BODIE

And now my comrades all are gone;
Naught remains to toast.
They have left me here in my misery,
Like some poor wandering ghost.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " S "

ABC Wednesday is upon us again. Today's letter is " S ".
This past weekend our family took a road trip into the High Desert of California. We visited a ghost town called Bodie,
Its there that I found my letter " S ".
Peering into a window I saw the sole of an old work shoe. Simply perfect. It was sitting on the window sill waiting for me to snap the shot. So...I did.
Sunshine and shoe soles, what more could I ask?
For more ABC Wednesday posts go to Mrs. Nesbits link on my sidebar.
Super-sizing this shot will show a lot of detail.

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " R "

Here we are at the letter " R " in our ABC Wednesday adventure.
When our family was taking a farm tour I spied this RUST BUCKET sitting in a corner.
The tractor was certainly rusty and a wRECK.
To see other R posts go to Mrs. Nesbitts link on my sidebar.
As always enlarging the picture will show more detail.

SHADOWS AND DUST

I haven't accomplished much in the housekeeping department this last week, consequently we have dust and "stuff" everywhere.
Our yard sale was a wonderful success. We made over $600.00. With temperatures topping 100 degrees F or 38.88 C. all I can say is kudos to everyone working so hard and for buyers spending their hard earned money while wilting on the vine.
We are so totally exhausted that its taking us some time to recover.
Next Sunday we will hear the total that all the sales at church and around the community made. I'm excited to hear the results and will let you know too.

BEE-ING PRODUCTIVE

This will be my last post until the weekend is over.
Hubby and I busy as bees getting ready for our huge yard sale on Saturday.
We are part of our Church-wide sale. There are about 200 homes, many just a single family or like ours have 4 or 5 families combining their goods. For those who are unable to have a sale at their home there is also a huge sale in the Church parking lot. There will be about 200 stalls there too. Lots of goodies for everyone.
Why all the work? This is called Bayside Gives Back (our church). 100% of the proceeds will go to 24 local organizations that take care of underprivileged people in our area. It seems that everyone gives to charities during the holidays, but by the time summer rolls around many of these agencies are hurting. That's why we are ready to "Give Back" and help our local communities. Monies will go to places such as our local Food Banks, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Teen Challenge and St. John's women shelter, to name just a few.
The Bibical premise for the endeveor is Acts 2:45.....Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
I will give you a follow up when I post Sunday Night or Monday.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

CARMI'S THEME - YELLOW

Carmi's theme at Written Inc. for this week is Yellow.
California has started its fire season weeks early with the horrendous wild fires in the Santa Barbara area.
These yellow packs are part of the firefighting equipment the men and women wear as they go in to put the hot spots out.
So many million dollar homes and property have been destroyed by the wind driven flames.
To see what others have posted for the yellow theme go to Carmi's link on my sidebar.

Take a look at Mr. Mappers post this week too. He has so exceptional shots of Red Tailed Hawks. His link is the first on on my sidebar.

AFTER THE CONFERENCE

This is how my Hubby and I felt after finishing our responsibilities at the Thrive church conference this past week. Physically, our petals are pretty droopy and spent but spiritually and mentally we are charged and raring to go again. We are striving to Thrive.
As always, enlarging the picture will show the detail.
