ANOTHER WEEK IS BEGINNING

Here's to another week full of all things good.

Our hearts are breaking for the sadness and awful things happening in our world.

This past Sunday we went to our former church and joined everyone in prayer.

It was the right place to be.

On a lighter note ...

An oldie but goodie ... or is it two Oldies but Goodies? ...

WHERE HAVE THE LAST FIVE YEARS GONE?

Today is our First Granddaughter's Wedding Anniversary.

Mark and Lauren have been married 5 years already.

Lauren gave US a call last night to see how We were doing and it was the perfect time to wish them blessings and more love  in the years to come.

Here are a few photos from the lovely outdoor wedding.

IT IS FINISHED !

 It is finished

The battle is over

Our dear friend Lynne went home to heaven this morning at 1AM.

Dave and I are sad but at the same time we know where she is and the reunion she is having with her husband, son and mom.

Prayers for her daughter Karen as she goes through this time of change and grief.

FALL DEBRIS

My Fall decorations really aren't much but it is more than I have put up for quite a while, especially when its still September.

As the seasons get a bit closer I may put up a few more things.

Kudos to all of you that turn your homes into such gorgeous spaces.

Well, you are getting 2 for the price of one ... I can't seem to get rid of one of these photos so ... enjoy ... it on repeat.. haha

I love our antique tea cart and think its perfect for Fall.

Got to show my Fall Gnomes, even though I took this directly into the light.
Not the best shot, but I think they are cute anyway.

FRIDAY FLASHBACK

There truly isn't any rhyme or reason to my Flashback today.

I was just going back in my archives and thought these might be of interest.

Two sweet Granddaughters.

Just waiting and wondering when my washing will be done ...

A good word for today.

GOD PAINTED THE SKY

Last night as it was turning dusk I noticed that everything outside was turning a golden yellow color.

I grabbed my phone and went out in our backyard.  What a breathtaking display in the sky.  I was truly in awe of the cloud masterpieces I saw.  It was muggy and still in the 90'sF at 7pm.  I didn't care, the display was too beautiful to go back inside.

I love the tiny birds roosting in the leafless tree.

I don't think I have taken the yard from this angle before.
That's our pear tree leaves framing the scene.

I did nothing to enhance any of these shots.  It was all God's doing !

Be sure to enlarge all of the photos.  The detail is so much better.

THE STORM OF THE CENTURY !

The Storm of the Century ... NOT ...

Thunder and lightning woke me up at 6AM this morning.  Lots of noise and flashes...

Here is the result of all of that hoopla.

See those speckles?

That's our storm.

I guess I have to get out my umbrella ...

From the look of the cloud cover northeast of us , I would say that they got some liquid.

Happy Taco Tuesday ...

WORDS

I came across a post which had strange words with double meanings in my English language.

Thought you might get a smile out of them.

I really feel sorry for people trying to learn the confusing words.

This weekend was another hot one but we had a good Sunday anyway.

Church and going out to brunch with our son and DIL and another couple we have known for almost 40 years.  Brunch was at William Jessup University.  The cafe is open to the public and it is a great buffet, everything from omelettes to London Broil dinner yesterday.  Their salad bar is really, really good.

Its a great place to eat and visit and close to home.  Win/Win.

Of course, I didn't take any photos.  I will try to remember next time we go.  $12.35 each isn't a bad price for Sunday brunch.

PENNIES FROM HEAVEN

 Good Morning !

Yesterday Dave and I had a few errands to run.  We pulled into a space in the parking lot.  As I got out of the car I looked down at the asphalt.

What did I see?

A ton of change scattered right in front of where I was standing.

Find a Penny, pick it up, and all the day you'll have good luck.

I always pick up loose change but its usually its only a penny.

Dave and I collected 55 pennies and 80 cents in nickels and dimes !

Why wouldn't someone stop to collect all that change if they had dropped it?

$1.35 isn't anything to sneeze at.

I have to admit that I looked around to see if we were on some kind of prank show or (now I'm dating myself) Candid Camera ...

Now ... where will I spend my treasure?  😍😊😉...

How about this for Thankful Thursday?

There was an added bonus to my day.  I got a phone call from an old high school friend.  He was desperately trying to have Dave and I go to the 64th High School Reunion.

Yikes, 64 years ago...

I had to say we couldn't attend for various reasons but it was so good to visit again.  We do it on occasion via messenger and the last time I saw Jim in person was 5 years ago when he came to visit and have lunch with us.  It sure was a trip down memory lane.

THE INVISIBLE RAIN and a BIT OF A BRAG

Well that promised rain storm didn't happen in our neighborhood.  I think we got enough drips to muddy the car windshield.  But I did get some pretty clouds as the sky darkened with the threat of said rain.

These photos are from our backyard.  The sky was so lovely.

The sky kept getting darker and the thunder rumblings were getting heavier so I thought I had better get inside.  Those flashes of lightning scare me a bit.

A bit later in the day I again went out in our backyard.  I wanted to brag a little on my Hubby and myself.

I think we are finally getting a handle on our "jungle".

Talk about "Sweat Equity".  Lots of hard physical labor but it is finally looking so much better.  Its Baby Steps but it is getting done.  We are so grateful for the sprinkler system being fixed and things are turning green again.

Today the storm has passed and the temps are lower.

There are very few clouds and the breeze is gentle.

Its going to be a good day.

SUMMER THUNDER

Well, this morning we have had something that is unusual for living down in the Sacramento Valley, especially in the late summer time.

Thunder and lightening !!  The mountains always have it this time of year and they are now getting blasted by rain, thunder and lightening.  Its getting darker and darker now at 10AM.  Weather doesn't say rain but I sure wish we would get some.

So, I went out in the front and snapped a few pictures .  Why not?  Its more Blog Fodder ... (:0)

Waiting to see if I need to take our flag down.

I love the layers of clouds.

Then looking behind me in the easterly direction ...

So, I don't think I will be going out and trying to finish some weeding in the backyard.

Can't you feel the excitement building?

To be continued.

MONDAY ... MONDAY ...

Good Morning where ever you are ...

I hope your weekend was pleasant  for you.

We were really in a heat wave and the temps. was 104F.  Too hot for me !

Even though it was pretty hot, I still made soup for supper.

It turned out SOoooo good.

I had left over veggies, a lonely pork chop and a bag of frozen Won Ton Dumplings.  Added chicken broth, a spritz of Sweet and Spicy bbq sauce and simmered it away for the afternoon.

It was perfect.  It was filling and it was so satisfying on our tummies.

This will definitely be on our future menu.  Being hot outside didn't matter one bit.

Makes me hungry just thinking about the soup.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments on the previous post.

I loved looking at the "vintage" photographs of my parents and me and then sharing them with you.

Here's to another week of sharing Life together.

FRIDAY FLASHBACK

 Where has this week gone?

I really can't believe it's Friday already.

When digging around in our closet I finally found some more "vintage" photos of our family.  I had been looking for these for some time and couldn't figure out where they had gone.

The first one is of my Dad.  Its dated 1942.  He had been drafted to come and become a welder in the San Francisco, Marin  Shipyards, helping make the huge battleships.  He said that he was "just" one of 9000 working at the Shipyards.

This is a photo he sent my Mom who was waiting to come out to California and be reunited with Dad.

He had many scars on his legs from the hot molten lead.

This was a few months later when this handsome guy was reunited with his wife.
Don't you think my Dad is the perfect model?

Mom in April 1943.  They were so happy to be together again.

Three years later they were able to buy their first home and become the "All American Family."

I especially like this scene.

Sunday afternoon ... Me "reading" the comics and Daddy reading the rest of the Sunday paper through his "eye lids"... nap time anyone?

We have that clock sitting on our hutch right now.  Now I know that its at least 80 + years old.  Our older son has the mirror above the fireplace in his home now.

I love being able to time stamp some of the things we still have.

Its fun to reminisce about my history.

WASH DAY IN MANY PLACES

Ginny's post a few days ago was showing many different pictures of clothes drying on the line.

It got me to thinking about a few that I have seen in several different countries.

In Henche, Haiti there were very few washers and dryers to use.

The women of the area would gather to do the wash and then hang it on the line.  They proceeded to have a great time visiting while waiting for their clothes to dry ...  which didn't take too long in that hot climate.

Laundry done, now it was time to visit.
To answer Chatty Crones question about why some things are on the ground, it's because they spread blankets and sheets on the ground to sit on while they were visiting and they also tried to sell some of their wears to visitors at the compound and to each other.  The compound allowed people to use their pump for fresh water.

In Guadalupe Victoria, Baja Mexico
Our power was rather iffy there so we resorted to hanging our things on the fence.
It worked like a charm.

In the good old USA

FLASHBACK FRIDAY

I have been going through our old photo albums.

What fun !!   So many memories of travels and family adventures.

I just had to share a few from the year 1998.

These are of our First Granddaughter, Lauren.  She was about 3 1/2 years old.

Dave and I took her to our favorite place ...  Disneyland ... This was in the "Good Old Days".

What a fun time we had.  Lauren's first time flying just with us and not her parents.

I guess you could call us the Doting Grandma and Papa.

I don't think Lauren was too sure what the crazyMad Hatter was going to do.
He chattered behind us through the entire ride.

She did love Winnie the Pooh, especially since he was just a cutout figure.

I guess the cutouts at the Disneyland Hotel were not so intimidating to this tiny girl.

One of my favorite shots from the time in the Park.

Its always fun to see things through the eyes of a child.

In the next few days I will post several more from our time at Disneyland with this Cutie Pie.
