No, this is the stunning ceiling at the Belliago Hotel. As the final picture in my Las Vegas series I thought I would show you this amazing work of art. The glass sculpure is created by Dale Chihuly. Chihuly states that Steve Wynn talked to him about making the art piece for the Bellagio before construction had even begun on the Hotel. He wanted a spectacular piece for the lobby. Back in Seattle the artist built the entire 70 x 30 foot ceiling, full scale in his studio. The commission, as contracted called for a whole new armature type and about 1000 new "flowers." When FIORI DI COMO was finally installed there were over 2000 handblown glass elements.

Google Dale Chihuly to see all his fabulous art work and some videos of works in progress.

Absolutely incredible. I can't imagine how beautiful a whole ceiling would be. This has been a great series of photos.

ReplyDeleteAmazing colors!
ReplyDeleteIf I could put in an order of who I'd like to be reincarnated as (forgive the grammar here), it would be Dale Chihuly with all his talent. It sounds like Kate and I are avid fans of his, and you too.
ReplyDeleteGreat series of photos! Enjoyed each and every one...
ReplyDeleteNow I will google Chihuly to see where else might I see his work.
Such a cool picture!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I saw your comment on Salty Dawg's blog re. not being able to post comments, and I've had the same problem with Beta bloggers. It'll be downloading comments and all of a sudden they'll disappear!
But I found something that works: if you click on the time of posting (eg 1:00pm) rather than the comments link, the comments wil pop up no problem.
Just thought I'd pass it on!:-)
Thanks Luce, for the advice. I will give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for all of your nice comments.
