REASON FOR THE WILDFIRES
Here is one reason for our terrible wildfires in California.
Its as dry as can be.
Hubby and I hiked at the Griffith Quarry in the little town of Penryn, CA. this weekend.
So many of the trees looked like it was a Fall day instead of Summer. It is a tinder-box there.
It was a great little hike inspite of the heat and smokey conditions coming from the mountains.

Sure looks dry, but do I see some greenery there too? Have you had drought conditions there? - Dave.
WOW that is super dry. Hope the smoke is getting better. Hope we can get together when I return to your side of the world in early August. :) :)
l'été est ces incendies. La tristesse de voir des forets entières disparaître.
Summer is these fires. The sadness of seeing whole forests disappear.
I am very much sorry for your terrible wildfires there. Trees really look like it was autumn but the photo is beautiful anyway.
Heavens, that IS dry! I wish I could send you some of our rain; we have some to spare!!
You are so right, it looks like fall or winter...
Where are the green green trees?
Gosh, I say we're dry here...but it is nothing compared to how dry you guys are. I hope you get some rain soon!
It's frightening.
Beautiful shot, Ph. Sue... And yes, it's dry, dry, dry all over... Did some hiking on Mt. Tamalpais yesterday (steep Eldridge Grade, from Phoenix Lake to Lake Lagunitas) and I was remarking to myself about the tinderbox conditions. Just way too much dry fuel.
A strong capture. Fires are so sad.
I wish you all could have some of the rain we have had here to alleviate the fires.......
One of the many things folks in California dread ... looks like if there was green leaves on the trees it would be a relaxing place to take a stroll.
I hope you make it okay through the dry season. The photograph really feels dusty.
Oh yes,I was out in CA as well.Yes,you are so correct,it is indeed a tinder box..
I would hate for anyone to light a fire, let alone a cigarette.
I can feel the dryness in this photo.
Thats sad. A beautiful image nonetheless!
I still don't understand what's going on there, why these fires, why is all so dry... crazy weather!
Your photo is a wonderful illustration of the dryness surrounding so many areas in California and elsewhere our West. Stay safe and let's hope that nature is the only culprit with lightening strikes, etc. rather than careless humans.
Oh my so wonder you have so many fires. It does make for an interesting photo though.
I love your picture of dried oaks and golden grasses - looks the same around here. That smoke was horrendous though... and it still isn't gone.
Scary stuff. I hope that things improve for you. We have those kinds of problems in Colorado, too.
Your post is a blast from the past, though. I used to live in Roseville, went to school in Rocklin, and church in Auburn. When I say Penryn, it just clicked.
Wow, it looks very dry over over there. No wonder your fires wreak so much havoc.
We also have many fires in the Western Cape, but that is very much part of the cycle of life in that part of the world and is essential for some on the seeds to germinate. However, the problem comes from the exotic trees that burn much quicker and hotter than the indigenous schrub
