ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " G "

We're at the letter " G " and I decided to GIVE you a
GIFT called... GROWING older GRACEFULLY.

Lord, you know I am GROWING older.
Keep me from becoming talkative
and possessed with the idea that I
must express myself on every subject.
Release me from the craving to straighten out everyone's
affairs.

Keep me from the recital of endless detail.
GIVE me strength to GET to the point.

Seal my lips when I am inclined to tell of my aches and pains.
They are increasing with the passing years, and the love of
speaking of them GROWS sweeter as time GOES by.

Teach me the GLORIOUS lesson that occasionally
I may be wrong.
Make me thoughtful but not nosy.
Helpful but not bossy.

With my vast store of wisdom and experiences,
it does seem a pity not to use it all.
But you know, Lord,
that I do want a Few Friends
in the End!

Oh, how I wish I knew where I got this prayer.
I would love to GIVE that person the credit.
Sorry I don't.

In any case please enjoy and leave a comment .
It would be most appreciated.

Don't forget to enlarge the photos to see the detail.

Beautiful photos. I love the first one and the bee on the yellow petals especially. And what a prayer! I'm going to share it with my choleric-sanguine mom. I think this was written especially for her and quite possibly for me too, at least a few years from now :)

A very good poem. I wish I could be sure I was going to follow its instructions. But I doubt if I will. Lovely photos too, by the way.

Beautiful textures in the photo, the yellow rose looks to be cushioning the bee (which at first glance I thought was a beetle, good job one of the commentators knew). Love the poppies.

Hi Sue, that prayer greeted me like an old friend just now. I posted a version of it in 2009 right after my mother moved from her home of 44-years to a studio apartment in a retirement complex. It was a yellowed newspaper clipping, no date or author given, and she wanted me to type it and make copies.

I posted it again on Dec. 19, 2011, after a dear friend read it when he gave the eulogy at her funeral. So you can imagine my great delight and appreciation when I read the comment identifying it as a 17th century nun's prayer. Of course I had to google it. Seems it has undergone some language updating and rearranging. I found it at http://jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/11340.htm. I can hear my mother's delighted laughter and her exclamations over your beautiful photos.

Thank you for such an uplifting and happy post!
