ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " H "

Today is ABC Wednesday and what else could I do for the letter H for Hippos?
In the early light of dawn we were able to see a large "herd" of Hippos in a water hole.

This guy was huge and had the grunt to prove it.

I wanted to post this picture to show how close we could actually get to these huge beasts. This was the only time we were allowed out of our van. A Kenya Safari is the best for seeing animals in their natural habitat.
Be sure to enlarge the pictures to see the detail.
Go to Mrs. Nesbitts link on my sidebar to see what others have posted for the letter " H ".

These photos are wonderful! I agree that a Kenyan safari is an unforgettable experience. These are the best hippo photos that I have ever seen - National Geographic quality.

Hippos are fascinating animals. I've also heard they can be quite dangerous in the wild. I'm sure your guide advised you of a safe distance, though.

Nice photos. Some day I'd love to see a hippo in the wild.

Hippos are fun to watch swimming underwater at the zoo. There are so hippos in your picture. Were you at the zoo too?

Wow. They are huge. HUMUNGUS : ). I don't know how to spell that and I am too lazy to spell check it. Great H! You never disappoint!

Wow -- beautiful!! I'm very impressed by your bravery. Hippos, I have heard, are some of the most dangerous animals, despite their cute looks and slow movement. I bet they can run when they want to!

Photo safaris are such joyful experiences. Great choice for this Wednesday. I've been missing my ABC posts, but whenever I do, I go to your blog to see the letter I need. You are faithful and consistent about posting!

I wish I could hear the grunt! It must have been spectacular being there, Sue.

I guess hippos must be fairly safe animals to get close to. I didn't know that!

Amazing! I don't think I'd want to get too close to these creatures, though:)

I thought Hippo is the most dangerous Africa animal, more than lion and water buffalo. Must be very exciting to be so up and close with them.
