ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER " U "

Today is again ABC Wednesday and the letter is " U ".
" U "
stands for United Nations. While we were in Haiti in 2006 the United Nations peace keeping force had a very active presence.
There was a lot of violence surrounding elections and economic failure. Their presence gave us some sense of security while there.
Enlarging this shot will really show the men and their guns.
Be sure to check out what others are posting for ABC Wednesday.

I actually can't think of a better U to aspire too. I wish we could all be united as nations. Maybe one day.
Excellent post and thank you for playing in Denise's absence.

Good to have UN in such situations. I would want UN to do much more and more effective :)

That must have been a scary time to be in Haiti. I'm glad the UN forces were there to keep a lid on things.

il fallait y penser, bonne idée. C'est un "U" très important pour la paix dans le monde.
it was necessary to think of it, good idea. It is very important "U" for peace in the world.

It must have been un-nerving being there at such a time. The UN vehicle and soldiers look like they mean business.

That's an interesting 'U' post! I didn't remember that they were in Haiti, but it sounds like a good thing that they were.

That really is a terrific shot with him giving the thumbs up.

So much turmoil for too long in Haiti. Don's sister works for a mission there.

I considered the UN for my U post, actually. I have one friend who works there and another who used to. Maybe next time through.

My goodness! What a thought provoking U! Why were you in Haiti at that time?

Great use of the U :)

I love the post before this one. Of course Edge-y is a word. How else can you describe that great shot.

A good choice for U. Hopefully one day the UN forces won't be necessary anymore, but until then...

A very appropriate U. They try to do a very important job, but they don't always get the support and resources that they deserve and need.

What a shame it is such a troubled part of the world. Hurray for the blue hats keeping you safe.

How interesting. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all nations could be united, one day?

A good photo, although I'm not a fan of the UN.

guess it's one of your unforgettable trips - who'd travel to places where atmosphere was that tense without UN peace keeping force's presence? :)
