GRANITE QUARRY STATUE

I saw this statue when we visited the Granite Quarry Museum last weekend. There is such an antique feel to the art piece that I thought I would add some film grain texture to the picture. I believe the statue is over one hundred years old. Work in the Quarry began in about 1870.

It must have taken a long time for these little cherubs to be carved. Those skills have mostly been lost today.

Sculpture amazes me. To be able to achieve those curves and details with such a hard material!

I love the sweet faces of your cherubs. I marvel at the craftsmen who created those for us to enjoy today.

Somehow, one thinks of Europe for stone carvings not the West Coast of N America, was the previous post from the same location?

Hey Sue :)

I'm making the rounds to say hi and tell my blogger friends I'm back and alive and well and so very appreciative of all your kind words, well wishes and prayers while I was gone.

I'll be back later to check out your blog and see what you've been up to while I was gone.

I've missed you!

I love stone statues. I have almost gotten to the point where I might try my hand at carving... I do understand stone carving is much more difficult than it looks. Lovely picture.
