THE OLD HOMESTEAD

I went digging back into my archives and found this picture of an old farm taken around the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area. I really love the rustic quality of the barn and shed.
Be sure to enlarge the shot to see the detail more clearly.

It doesn't look very well insulated for winter but well air conditioned in Summer.
Nice pic.

This is what has happened to farms and farmers in America. They really don't get a lot of money for the things they grow or produce but the so-called middle man does and that is where the big profits are. So, in many cases, the farmer can no longer afford to even keep his outbuildings in repair and they slowly fall apart. In time the only thing left here will be the tin roof and cement blocks. And the names of the man and woman who once farmed this land will not be remembered even in the cemetery.

I really like that homestead photo very much and also that rustic environment….and yes, it would be good if someone could take care more of that beautiful farm.
The vegetation that climbs up the barn is beautiful decoration to its facade.

Very pretty but also a shame. As Abe said, the family farm is no longer a viable business and this is all that is left of many of them

My mom's family is from up that way, and that shot makes me miss visiting them. My grandparents had a small farm in rural PA that they managed to keep running until they died. They were poor, but they made enough to live. It was paradise for a kid!

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blogosphere.

Wouldn't that be the perfect place for a grandchild to play? If the grandparents would let them, of course.

This reminds me of Faye's photos. Has anyone heard from here lately; I miss her!

This scene would be difficult to distinguish from Lancaster in England, especially the building on the left.

I love old farm shots. What stories these buildings could tell.

Nice picture of an old building. Looks like it could have been taken in South Africa

I love that photo. It reminds me of some old barns on the way to my daughter's alma mater in North Carolina.

I was going to say how much I love this photo, and how I love the old farms. But then I read OML's comment, and I am so depressed. As much as there is right in this world, there is a lot wrong. I just want to live out in the country and enjoy the country life while I may.

It's beautiful and sad at the same time. You can't help wondering who built it and lived there and how it came to be abandoned. And yet, it is a beautiful place all the same.

Absolutely beautiful, even though not stable. I admire barns like this around us. This is a gorgeous image.

Lovely. I'm so glad you have recorded this barn... there may not be any use for buildings like this in the future, and they will fall into disrepair and soon become obsolete.
There are many sites around here where there used to be a barn or a farmhouse or some other building, and I should have recorded it before it disappeared.
BTW in answer to your comment, yes, almost a grandma now, only a day or so to go, I hope!!!!!! Keep watching my blog for news.

Nice shot! I love the ivy(?) on this. I bet it would also look cool in sepia tone.
