Nice photograph. The iron part of that wheel was originally put on the wooden part by a blacksmith. It is fascinating to see them do it; and it wasn't something done in a minute or two. They had to make a new piece of metal for the wheel and that took a lot of heating and pounding and then they have to make it round and "weld" the two sides together and it had to be a little smaller than the actual wooden part; and they would heat it until it was then red hot and put it on the wood and it would catch the wood on fire and he would quickly hammer the rim on and douse it with a pail of water. The sudden dousing with water put out the fire and shrunk the iron wheel part so it fit very tight on the wooden part of the wheel.

So the photograph of the old wooden wheel is nice enough but the rest of the story is lost in history unless some old guy comes along, like me, who has seen it done, and tells you about it.

The the photo has a different meaning to all who will see it.
