A FUNGUS AMONG US

I discovered this lone mushroom poking itself up in a crack in our garden sidewalk. The fungus is not quite 2 inches tall and looked like a polished stone until I took a closer look at it. I find it fascinating how things can grow in the most unfriendly places for them.

Don't forget to click on the picture to see the detail more clearly.

For those who were asking about the fires in California, they are happening in the Southern part of the State. Mr. Mapper and I live in the Northern part close to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 20 miles from Sacramento. We are not in any danger from those terrible fires. Thanks for your concern.

Yes, what a mushroom. I've loved seeing so many varieties this year. It's so terrible about the fires. But glad you don't have to deal with it.

I've been to South lake Tahoe 3 times. That can't be too far away from where you live. It's lovely there. Great mushroom shot!

Glad you are not in the fire zone. I do have friends in San Diego that have been told to evacuate.... such a sad time!

I love this mushroom shot. Every time a see mushrooms like this I think of Alice in Wonderland. Our mushrooms here don't seem to grow this way.... with the point at the top. Maybe I just haven't seen any like this. Nice shot!

That's a huge mushroom to grow out of a crack in the sidewalk! I wonder if it's an edible one?

Fabulous fungus! Am glad you are not affected by the wildfires - I was frightened yesterday when I heard a state of emergency had been declared in CA.I feel so sorry for everyone who has been affected.

Love the title! I call one of my best friends the "fungus among us" because she loves mushrooms (yuck)! I'll be sending her a link to that entry!
