FALL IS HERE

After a great time in Las Vegas we decided to visit Lake Tahoe which is only two hours from our home.
Fall is definitely coming to the mountains. I love the sound of the wind blowing through the majestic pine trees and their wonderful pine cones which have fallen to the forest floor. This cone was nearly 12 inches long and had a sweet vanilla fragrance.
Be sure to click on the photo to enlarge and see the detail.
Check out my son -Mr. Mapper's post of a really gorgous double rainbow. You can use my link in the side column.

I've never been to Lake Tahoe. There's a place in Louisiana that we would often go for a picnic when I was a kid. It's in the area where my parents were born and raised and the huge pines there would produce massive cones like that. Heaven for squirrels.

You've obviously had a great holiday! And what a huge pine cone. I brought some biggies like that home from my last trip to S Carolina.

That area always looks so appealing in movies. I heard there were some bad fires this year. Did you see any damage?

I LOVE Lake Tahoe. We saw it in the spring but I'd love to go back in fall and also in winter. It reminded me of Switzerland.

Wow... Yes, I remember those huge pine cones... It's been so long since I've been to the Sierras... Your description of the vanilla-like smell brought back some vivid memories of camping amongst them...

Wow, that's big. I was watching a TV show the other day about the family with the sextuplets and twins. They took a trip out west with their twins and visited Sequoia (sp?) National Park. They commented on the huge pine cones they saw there.

Saw a whole bunch of those pine cones at Tahoe too ... 30 years ago ... snuck a couple home ... think they got thrown out.

Wow, it is huge! Fall is arriving here, too. This morning was bright and sunny, but feezing (7ºC!). Fortunately, the day warmed to 22ºC and I could go out with the girls for a walk.
