THE Q M 2 ARRIVES
The Queen Mary 2 arrived in San Francisco today. It is the largest ship ever to pass through the Golden Gate. It has traveled 14,145 miles from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, around the tip of South America in 26 days.
This huge ship is 1,131 feet long, a little less than the Empire Building is tall. There are 17 deck levals and it is carrying 2,638 guests.
The QM2 serves 14,00 meals a day and they use 5,000 to 6,000 eggs daily.
This beautiful ship leaves our City tomorrow for Hawaii to New Zealand, Sydney Australia, Hong Kong, Sinapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Egypt, Athens, Rome, Le Havre, France, Southhampton, England and finally back Florida on April 2, 2007. Around the world in 80 days.
My husband and I were among the throngs of people along the entrance to the Golden Gate watching the pagentry. That is one gigantic vessel. It was exciting to see it and experience the excitement.

My father was a captain on board passenger ships! We used to have so much fun on board. Takes me back!!!

I really like this photo, especially with all the little boats escorting the QE2 through local waters. Looks like it was fun to be present.
Thanks for visiting my Aloha Photo site. I enjoy your comments.
Well, I missed it both coming and going... Thanks for all of the great information... Ah yes, Around the World in 80 Days -- I've had that song playing in my head for years... I was a mere lad when the motion picture came out...
What a great shot. I think it was just here recently if I am not mistaken. :) Looks like a nice day in San Francisco :)
I just finished reading an article about not being afraid to use something other than standard crop ratios/sizes. Your decision to crop this one the way you did makes it a better photo!
Wow!! how lucky those people are! It must be amazing go into a travel like that!
Even I'm sure the first days i'l get a little dizzy because of the movement and the waves... :S
You know, now that the subject is presented, one never hears about the norovirus attacking the Queen Mary or her sister ships. I wonder if there's a backstory as to why the ships that seem to get "hit" with the virus are often the ones in the Caribbean Sea?
Nice shot of the QM2! It's from Land's End, right? The crop is ideal too.
Saw this on the news this morning. I've never been a passenger on a cruise ship - yet. You did a great job capturing the beauty of the ship.
Lovely picture!
(BTW your post is entitled QE2, but this is the Queen Mary 2.)
My late husband's father spent many years employed by Cunard on both the original Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth. He crossed the Atlantic many many times between Southampton and New York on both ships, especially during the WW2 when the big sister ships were used as troop carriers.
le QE2 est magnifique, j'ai eut le plaisir de le voir arriver à New York, un spectacle sublime.
the QE2 is splendid, I have was pleased to see it arriving to New York, a sublime spectacle. v
Thanks ex-shammickite for catching that mistake. I don't know what I was thinking. Or maybe I wasn't thinking.
Corrected it now. Again thanks.
Lovely shot! I wish I was on that ship. It would be 80 days of bliss.
WOW! I MISSED THIS! What a gorgeous vessel..and you captured it perfectly! I wish I were on it too...I NEED to go around the world in 80 days! LOL! ;)
How funny...my word verification was "ufine!" LOL! =)

Great post! It would have been a thrill to have been out there beside her! Awesome!!!!
This is a wonderful image. What an amazing ship.
When it came to New York I was amazed. When it sailed with the QEII out of the harbor past the Statue of Liberty it was an amazing site.
This is such a great photo, and I can only imagine how much fun it must have been to have been present.
Thats a wonderful picture. It almost looks like a painting. The far hills look like watercolour. I love all the little boats scurrying alongside. Very pretty.
Impressive site! I like how all the little boats are cruising beside the beast.
Wow - really cool!
The scale is amazing.

I can't believe how huge this looks next to the other boats in the harbor. Great shot.
I seems that the Queen Mary 2 catches everybody's attention everywhere it goes!
It visited Valparaiso (one of Chile's main ports) and many people went to see it.
It's a massive ship. I wish I could take such trip at least once.
I saw this on the TV news. What was curious was that the QM 2 actually first stopped over in Lisbon on its maiden voyage in 2004 and has come many times since. It always docks at the nearest birth to our 25th April Bridge, which is a perfect copy of your G.G. It is always a spectacular sight and I have always got as excited as all the other people - young & old, rich & poor - who stop to marvel at it. However, the best visit was when I knew 6 weeks in advance what day it was coming,in May 05, because I had friends from London cruising on her. Usually, it's next to impossible to know this, unless you know people working in cruise-ship tourism, excursion guides etc. I devoted the whole day to its visit, from being alone next to it at 7.30 a.m. dockside till it sailed out at 4.30 pm. I even crossed the river to see it from the other side. Spent a few hours with my friends, lunching and showing them my alternative view of the city. When it sailed out, I was at the top of the Belem Tower (with 3 cameras) suddenly, my cell-phone rang. It was my 2 friends, who asked where I was and told me where they were standing, so I got a shot of them, clearly visible and waving. All the tourists around me from all over the world were as excited as I was! I'll have to post some on my place to show you, PWB, although I think I already did many months ago.
should mark that date on My calendar : april 22......:)
A big hi from the east coast : Florida!!!
