FACES OF GROUND ZERO

A traveling display of the Faces of Ground Zero came to San Francisco. We went to view it. There is an extraordinary camera in Manhattan that is 12-foot by 16-foot high Polaroid. It is a one-of-a-kind instrument designed by Edwin Land. It takes pictures that are 40 inches wide by 80 inches tall-larger than life-size. LIFE photographer Joe McNally used the camera and when he saw what transpired at the World Trade Center, only blocks away from the studio, he decided to create a document. Over 2 weeks time he recorded 150 people involved in the tragedy and allowed them through his lens to bare their souls. This exhibit was a moving tribute to heroism and all that America can stand for. Posted by Picasa

Wow, I learned so much from this post: 1. I always thought the Land in "Poloroid Land Camera" meant land, and not a person's name. . .
2. This exhibit sounds wonderful.
